OMEGOR® Krill is a dietary supplement with krill oil more concentrated in phospholipids, omega-3, choline, and astaxanthin than the previous generation of krill oils. Krill is a small crustacean that comes from the pristine waters of the Antarctic where it constitutes one of the largest biomasses in existence.

It occupies the lowest rung of the food chain, therefore, it does not accumulate pollutants and ensures high purity of its derivatives. Krill feeds on microscopic algae that are its primary source of omega-3 and the antioxidant astaxanthin.

Krill oil consists of omega-3 EPA and DHA in the form of phospholipids.

  • Phospholipids: are the main constituents of all cell membranes, therefore, omega-3s carried by phospholipids are efficiently absorbed and utilized by our body.
  • The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA: The long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are important constituents of cell membranes and precursors of a class of substances called eicosanoids, which are important for the regulation of numerous physiological functions. Daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA contributes to normal cardiac function (2 capsules). DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain and visual function with a daily intake of 250 mg (6 capsules).
  • Choline: is an essential nutrient for our bodies. As phosphatidylcholine it enters into the composition of cell membranes and is also involved in the process of nerve impulse transmission. Choline contributes to physiological lipid metabolism because it acts as a transporter of these molecules and especially of cholesterol. Choline is also useful for normal homocysteine metabolism and contributes to the maintenance of liver function (2 capsules).
  • Astaxanthin: is a red pigment responsible for the characteristic red color of krill oil and, more importantly, for acting as a natural preservative to maintain the freshness of the oil and protect the omega-3 fatty acids from oxidation.

The Benefits of Omega-3s

The properties of Omega-3s are useful as early as gestation, when they help the proper development of the baby's cardiovascular system, brain and eyes. And again to protect the heart, arteries, nervous system and eyesight, it is important to ensure adequate levels during the rest of life as well. Of all the possible benefits of Omega-3s that have been most studied, the best known relate to the heart:

  • To the reduction of blood triglyceride levels after meals and on an empty stomach;
  • to the increase in so-called "good" cholesterol (the HDL, High Density Lipoproteins);
  • to antithrombotic properties that could help reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events (such as heart attack and stroke);
  • To an antiarrhythmic effect;
  • to an anti-inflammatory action that by affecting the dilation of arteries could help fight hypertension, especially during old age.
