The most frequently asked questions
When to take Omega-3s: before or after meals?
During. To optimize Omega-3 absorption, we recommend that you take the supplements during meals that contain a source of fat. This not only helps reduce any gastric upset, but also improves nutrient assimilation.
Is it risky to take Omega-3 in gestation?
Far from it! Omega-3s, especially DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), are critical for the development of the baby's brain and retina and also help mom in the prevention of postpartum depression. At this very special stage of your life, we recommend taking a pregnancy-specific product such as Maternal VitaDHA.
Can children take omega-3s?
Of course. Omega-3s are valuable allies for the growth and development of young children: they support their cognitive function, eye health and immune system. We have specific formulations for children, such as VitaDHA in vials, a supplement designed to be well tolerated by very sensitive individuals, such as pregnant women and pediatric children.
What is the difference between fish-derived Omega-3s and plant-derived Omega-3s?
To answer this question we need to start by learning more about, by name, some essential fatty acids. Animal-derived Omega-3s (mainly derived from fish) directly contain EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), two valuable acids for our well-being.
Plant-derived Omega-3s (derived from algae or flaxseed), on the other hand, contain ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which the body must convert to EPA and DHA. This conversion is not always efficient, so Omega-3s of animal origin are generally considered more bioavailable, thus easier to absorb.
However, for people on a vegetarian or vegan diet, plant sources remain an excellent support.
