Several data collected over the years suggest that the increasing occurrence of asthma cases may also be related to dietary factors.

In fact, in Western diets, the amount of omega-6 fatty acids, which are characterized by known proinflammatory properties, is 20 to 25 times higher than that of omega-3s, which reduce inflammation instead.

For this reason, scientists have tested the potential of Omega-3s in treating asthma symptoms in various independent researches. Their findings were summarized in an analysis published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

According to the authors of the article, the data regarding the effectiveness of Omega-3 intake in relieving asthma symptoms are still conflicting.

However, Omega-3-rich fish oil supplements reduce airway narrowing and the production of molecules that participate in inflammatory processes in athletes suffering from exercise-induced bronchoconstriction .

Not only that, these athletes can also reduce the amount of medication they take if they combine it with the use offish oil.

For this reason, experts believe it likely that taking the Omega-3s contained in fish oil is a viable alternative or good complement to current asthma and bronchoconstriction therapies.
