Hashimoto's thyroiditis: do you recommend Omegor Twinefa?

I would like to please know the amount of GLA present on each Twinefa capsule and how to avoid the saturation effect. Is it advisable to take it in cycles? For example, 1 month on and 1 month off. I would like to try giving it to my daughter who has Hashimoto's thyroiditis with hair loss. Thank you

Dear Sir,

in cases of thyroiditis, a diet to reduce levels of inflammation is very useful. For this reason, dietary supplementation with the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and omega-6 GLA, which have marked anti-inflammatory actions, is particularly recommended.

The general advice for your daughter is to favor foods with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity-which can be of real help to those suffering from thyroiditis. So, yes to eating fatty fish such as sardines, mackerel or caught salmon, raw extra virgin olive oil, fruits, whole grains and spices such as turmeric and ginger. To supplement her diet, the dosage I recommend to your daughter for Omegor TwinEFA is at least 2 capsules per day to be taken at a main meal. In fact, each capsule of Omegor TwinEFA contains:

  • 10 mg GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) from borage oil
  • 400 mg EPA and 200 mg DHA from fish oil purified and concentrated by multiple molecular distillation, with the omega-3s in triglyceride form-that is, highly assimilable by our bodies.

With this supplementation it will directly supply GLA to the body - GLA which, by the action of an enzyme called elongase, will allow the formation of dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), a precursor of prostaglandin series 1 (PGE1) with anti-inflammatory and anti-aggregating character. Thus potentially promoting anti-inflammatory action useful in cases of thyroiditis.

Please note: taking supplements should always be agreed upon with the treating physician-especially if drug therapies are ongoing. I remain available for further information.

Cordially,
