Ask the Pharmacist

For children, better Omegor Kids or Mind?

To a 9-year-old child what do you recommend Omegor Mind or Omegor Kids chewables, thank you.

Dear Sir,

for children your child's age, both products you mention - Omegor Mind and Kids - are good options. Preferring one or the other depends on the child's needs: for example, if the child has no special learning difficulties, products from the Omegor Kids line such as Omegor Kids chewables and Omegor Kids syrup are fine.

Below is an overview of Omegor products that might benefit children like your son, with specified dosages for children:

  • Omegor Kids chewable capsules

Omegor Kids chewable capsules is a fish oil supplement, rich in omega-3 DHA (250 mg per daily dose) and vitamins A, C, D3 and E, offered in chewable capsules with blackcurrant flavor. The dosage is 2 capsules per day, to be taken at any time of the day.

The capsules can be chewed until the wrapper is completely dissolved in the mouth, or, after chewing the capsule and taking in the inner contents, the capsule wrapper can also be thrown away since it contains no nutrients-it is in fact made up only of food-grade gelatin, glycerol, dyes and flavorings.

  • Omegor Kids syrup

Omegor Kids syrup on the other hand is a dietary supplement based on algal oil, rich in omega-3 DHA and EPA and vitamins C and D3 in a pleasant emulsion with honey. The dose is 1 5-mL scoop per day; you can give it to your child at any time of the day, such as at breakfast or during snack time. The emulsion can be taken as is or added to yogurt or smoothies.

  • Omegor Mind

As for the Omegor Mind product, it is a swallowable capsule supplement of omega-3 EPA and DHA, omega-6 GLA, a clinically tested Bacopa monnieri extract-Bacomind®-optimal levels of all B Vitamins, zinc and vitamin C.

The Bacopa extract used in Omegor Mind was tested for 4 months on children with learning disabilities ranging in age from 4 to 18 years. This extract showed improvement in various memory-related functions (working memory, logical memory, memory related to personal life, visual and auditory memory). The dosage used in this study (225 mg/day) corresponds to the dosage of Bacomind found in 2 capsules of Omegor Mind.

The recommended dose is precisely 2 capsules per day to be taken at a meal-breakfast, lunch or dinner. In summary, from what has just been said, it emerges that Omegor Kids chewable and syrup products are absolutely suitable for supplementing a child's diet to provide him or her with the omega-3 fatty acids that he or she may not be getting through food because he or she does not like fish or eats little of it; while Omegor Mind is recommended if you want to improve the learning abilities of your child who shows difficulties in school. I remain available for further information.
