Ask the Pharmacist

For high cholesterol, which supplement is best?

I have problems with high cholesterol (280) and was directed to your omega 3 supplement Omegor Vitality 60. Then I saw the other supplements that, being placed in the "Cholesterol and Triglycerides" section, appear more suitable (Cardiol or other). What is the difference between the two groups of supplements?

Omegor Vitality is a supplement of omega-3 EPA and DHA in a more bioavailable triglyceride form. Omega-3 fatty acids promote triglyceride balance but are not particularly effective in reducing high cholesterol, in particular, LDL cholesterol. For this purpose we recommend the supplements for high cholesterol and high triglycerides, Cardiol and Cardiol Forte, which have complex formulations more specific to acting on normalizing cholesterol levels.

  • Cardiol is a supplement for high cholesterol, with values above 200 mg/dL and up to 239 mg/dL. The recommended dose is 1 to 3 capsules daily taken in the evening just before dinner for a period of at least 2 months and in conjunction with a balanced diet.
  • Cardiol Forte is indicated in cases of higher cholesterol (>240 mg/dL) because it has a higher dosage in monacolin K (10 mg/cps) for maintaining normal blood cholesterol levels. In this case, the recommended dose is only 1 capsule per day to be taken in the evening for a period of two months. In your case, in the presence of high cholesterol values-about 280 mg/dL
  • The most suitable supplement is Cardiol Forte, combined with a balanced diet. I recommend that you discuss this with your primary care physician. To determine the duration and effectiveness of supplementation, we recommend that after 2 months of supplementation, cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose checks be performed, plus a routine of all other parameters (blood count, transaminases, etc.).

I remain available for further information.
