Ask the Pharmacist

Do Omega-3 supplements have positive effects on oily skin?

Good morning. I have quite oily facial skin. In my case, could taking Omega-3s be harmful to skin, making it even more oily? Thanking you for your kind reply, I extend cordial greetings.

Dear Joseph,

Omega-3 supplementation balances the fatty acid composition at the epidermis level, without leading to excessive sebum production by follicles.

Sebum production can be caused by different factors:

  • endocrine causes
  • digestive disorders
  • nervous problems

These have nothing to do with fatty acid intake in the diet, for which you may want to consult a specialist.

Hoping to have been of help I remain at your disposal for any further questions or clarifications.

Sincerely.
