Ask the Pharmacist

Diabetes, are there contraindications to omega-3 consumption?

Good morning , I would like to give your product omega 3 with vit. E to my husband. He is diabetic can I give it? Thank you

Dear Madam,

in case of diabetes, intake of omega-3 fatty acids is not contraindicated; on the contrary, a proper intake of omega-3 EPA and DHA (at least 1 g per day) can be helpful for many disorders that characterize this condition:

  • inflammation. With omega-3s, a gradual reduction in the pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic state typical of diabetes is possible;
  • Circulation. Omega-3 supplementation can promote normal peripheral circulation;
  • vision and nervous system. It is possible that 1 g daily of Omega-3 EPA and DHA has a trophic effect at the level of the retina and central nervous system.

Also for your husband who suffers from diabetes, the recommended dose is 1-2 pearls per day of Omegor Vitality 1000 - to be taken just before main meals. I recommend that you inform your physician if your husband decides to take Omegor Vitality or any other type of supplement: any dietary supplementation should be undertaken in consultation with the treating physician especially in case of concomitant drug therapies. I remain available for further questions.

Sincerely,
