Ask the Pharmacist

How long should I take Omega-3?

Dear Alexander,

our diet has changed considerably in recent decades. The intake of omega-3 fatty acids has decreased dramatically, leading to an increase in the omega-6/Omega-3 ratio.

The increase in this ratio, as shown by several epidemiological studies, increases the incidence of cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases in the population.

When we begindietary supplementation with Omega-3, we go about restoring a balance that was present within our bodies, a balance that was then altered by poor eating habits and unhealthy lifestyles.

It is clearly understood that the intake of such fatty acids can be prolonged without the appearance of side effects. I recommend that you take Omega-3 for at least 3 months in order to verify the effectiveness of supplementation.

Of course, depending also on his eating habits, he may reduce or increase supplementation. For example, if he habitually consumes fish, he may reduce his daily intake of Omega-3.

I cordially greet you and remain at your disposal for any further information.
