Can Cardiol cause side effects, such as increased transaminases and CPK values?
Good morning, I would like to know whether Cardiol, given the presence among its components of the natural statin monacolin k, may cause as a side effect a slight increase in transaminases and cpk values. If so, could I alternatively take 3 grams of Omegor Vitality? How many 1440 mg pearls should I take? Thank you for your kindness and helpfulness.
Dear Mr. Augusto,
the Omega-3 fatty acids are important nutrients for the proper functioning of the body.
They especially affect the blood level concentration of HDL (promoting their increase) and triglycerides. They effectively contribute to their decrease when they are at high levels. Omega-3 fatty acids therefore do not exhibit particular efficacy in reducing total cholesterol and the LDL cholesterol.
As you rightly noted, fermented red rice, present in the Cardiol formulation, has as its active component monacolins and in paricular monacolin K. Regarding the amount of total monacolins, a recent European regulation limits their use in dietary supplements to less than 3 mg/dose. This result is due precisely to the study of years by theEFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) on the adverse effects of this ingredient of very similar chemical structure to lovastatin. In addition, the warnings related to the presence of fermented red rice are as follows: the product should not be consumed by pregnant or lactating women, children under the age of 18, and adults over the age of 70.
Consult a physician about consuming this product if health problems occur.
The product should not be consumed if you are taking cholesterol-lowering medications.
It should not be consumed if you already consume other products containing fermented red rice.
It is recommended not to consume 3 or more mg per day of monacolines from fermented red rice.
There is no evidence to our knowledge of contraindications of monacolin k with any side effects you have indicated. Alternatively, we can offer you our dietary supplement Eulipid which provides a proper dose of antioxidants, which are essential both in the protection of the cardiovascular system and other tissues from damage caused by oxidative stress, a major cause of cellular deterioration.
Eulipid contains no fish oil and has as its main component berberine, extracted from Berberis aristata; a plant that is widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine that facilitates the "capture" of cholesterol by the liver. Eulipid also contains resveratrol, bioflavonoids, tocotrienols, polycosanols and coenzyme Q10 with antioxidant and circulatory-protective actions.
The recommended dose of Eulipid is 1 tablet daily, preferably taken just before dinner. Ideally, it should be combined with an omega-3 supplement such as. Omegor Vitality 1000.
The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA help maintain normal heart function and normal blood triglyceride levels with a daily intake of 2 g (3 capsules of Omegor Vitality 1000).
We remind you that dietary supplements should not be understood as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
We generally recommend that you consult your primary care physician who is aware of the medications you take, possible interactions with the ingredients of the dietary supplements you usually consume or would like to add to your diet, and is aware of your clinical course.
In addition, we of course recommend that you inform your treating physician of any dietary arrangements (diet, nutritional supplements) that you plan to adopt as well as talk about the possibility of using our products: all this in order to decide with him on the most appropriate therapy. I remain available for further information on this matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
