Ask the Pharmacist

What omega-3s for my kids and my thyroiditis?

Dear doctor, I am the mother of two boys, nicol 14 years old and demi 13 years old. In the past I gave my children vitadha vials. I discontinued them because they could not stand the taste. I would like to know if I can give vitality pearls as a replacement, and in what daily dosage. I have another question concerning myself, I am 42 years old and have congenital thyroiditis, I know that this disorder causes me a lack of concentration. Could you recommend which supplement I could take? Thank you

Dear Francesca,

Before we talk about your thyroiditis, let me inform you right away that for your kids the ideal solution might be Omegor Kids capsules chewable. Omegor Kids is a blackcurrant-flavored chewable capsule supplement - based on fish oil rich in omega-3 DHA (250 mg per daily dose) and vitamins A, C, D3 and E.

Its formulation and flavor are designed just for kids-to help them "find taste" in omega-3s.

The dosage I recommend is 2 capsules per day for your kids to take at any time of the day.

Thyroiditis and omega-3: the right diet and Omegor Twinefa

Let us now return to your thyroiditis.
In cases of thyroiditis, a diet to reduce inflammation levels is very helpful. For this very reason, dietary supplementation with the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA is particularly advisable, as omega-3 DHA and EPA exert an anti-inflammatory effect in our bodies. I therefore recommend Omegor TwinEFA-a synergistic formulation based on omega-3 (EPA and DHA) from fish oil and omega-6 (GLA -gamma-linolenic acid) from borage oil, which could be of benefit for congenital thyroiditis. The omega-3/omega-6 combination:

  • Has shown a powerful anti-inflammatory effect
  • has been found to be useful in improving mood, anxious states and sleep quality through reducing levels of cortisol, the so-called stress hormone

It would therefore also meet your need to support concentration. Supplementation should be in addition to a food diet designed for thyroiditis: the general advice is to favor foods with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, thus:

  • Fatty fish, such as sardines, mackerel or caught salmon;
  • Raw extra virgin olive oil;
  • fruit;
  • whole grains;
  • Spices such as turmeric and ginger.

The dosage I recommend for Omegor TwinEFA is at least 2 capsules per day to be taken at a main meal-breakfast, lunch or dinner. I remain available for further information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and pharmaceutical chemist
