Ask the Pharmacist

Hyperactivity, is it okay to VitaDHA at age 8?

Good morning I have a hyperactive eight year old child I would like to know if the liquid vita dha supplement can be good for him, he also struggles to read well and write but he is not dyslexic, can always this supplement be helpful for school? I would like to kindly know the dosage if it is one vial a day even for age eight. Thank you kind regards

Dear Madam,

for hyperactivity and any other disorders, I recommend that you consider dietary supplements not as a therapy, but as a nutritional support with exclusively nutritional and physiological effects to promote the regular performance of the body's functions.

That said, based on what you describe VitaDHA in single-dose vials is probably the most appropriate product for your 8-year-old child. Children with attention deficit or hyperactivity disorder often find benefit in taking omega-3 DHA. In fact, it has been scientifically observed that it is common for children with ADHD and hyperactivity to be deficient in this fatty acid-DHA-which serves very important structural functions in the nervous system and retina.

Here are some insights that have appeared on our blog:

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: help from omega-3 EPA and DHA
  • Omega-3 DHA improves children's reading skills and behavior

Should you decide to start supplementation with VitaDHA-here is the supplement sheet, which you should have your doctor review-I recommend that this supplementation be undertaken in accordance with the advice of the pediatrician or specialist following your child's hyperactivity. For the child, I recommend this dosage:

  • Start with 1 vial every other day for a period of at least 2 weeks;
  • Then switch to one vial per day;
  • stipulating a period of at least 2 months as the duration of the supplement.

The oil can be taken as is from the vial itself or poured over a teaspoon-it is indeed free of fishy odor/flavor and flavored with lemon. But it can also be added to white or fruit yogurt, spreadable cheese or smoothies. I remain available for further information.

Sincerely,
