Ask the Pharmacist

Fibromyalgia, which omega-3 supplement against pain?

Good morning, I wanted to ask for some information. After numerous examinations that I performed as a result of symptoms of excessive fatigue, which led me to give up even the things I had to complete, I was diagnosed by the neurologist with fibromyalgia. As a result of treatment carried out and which even now I am performing with 37.50 Efexor, the situation is much improved although I alternate between periods in which I feel better and others in which I feel this feeling of fatigue very strongly. I wanted to ask you if it might be useful to supplement my diet with an omega-3 product and if you think it might help me feel less "muscle pain" and give me more energy. Thank you regards

Dear Laura,

Since this is a painful musculoskeletal syndrome with a chronic course often associated with other psychosomatic symptoms (sleep disturbances, mood instability, anxiety, depression, and irritable bowel syndrome), it is preferable to use a supplement based on omega-3 (EPA and DHA) and omega-6 (GLA -gamma-linolenic acid) such as that in the product Omegor Twinefa.

This association helps reduce the production of pain chemical mediators (pro-inflammatory eicosanoids) in favor of anti-inflammatory substances instead. The use of omega-3 and omega-6 has also been shown to be helpful in improving mood (increasing serotonin transmission) and maintaining skeletal integrity by preventing bone demineralization, as well as having a positive effect on sleep quality.

The dose I recommend is 1-3 pearls per day, taken before meals for a period of at least two months. I recommend that you start supplementation in accordance with the advice of your specialist or treating physician because they should always be informed of the dietary supplementation you intend to follow.

Sincerely,
