What is the difference between Cardiol and Eulipid?

What is the difference between Cardiol and Eulipid?

Dear Doctor,

Below is a description of the supplements Cardiol and Eulipid.

Cardiol

Cardiol is a supplement formulated to ensure the health of the cardiovascular system by acting on several fronts. This product is useful if a marked cholesterol-lowering action is desired, combined with a good ability to normalize the values of other blood lipids. In fact, the Omega-3s present help to:

  • Reduce blood triglycerides;
  • Promote a rise in "good" HDL cholesterol;
  • Stabilize heart rate and rhythm.

Cardiol contains 3mg/capsule of monacolin K, a natural statin with very similar structure to lovastatin. Lovastatin is a selective inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMG-CoA reductase), a key enzyme in hepatic cholesterol synthesis. Recent clinical studies have shown that the fish oil-fermented red yeast combination is effective in reducing cholesterol levels on par with prescription statins. Cardiol has been taken with satisfactory results and without side effects even by patients intolerant to statins. The other components of the formulation (bioflavonoids, policosanols, tocotrienols, vitamin B3) work synergistically with fermented red rice to effectively promote LDL cholesterol reduction. Folic acid and vitamin B12 also enable the reduction of plasma homocysteine levels. The supply of antioxidants (resveratrol, coenzyme Q10, sesamin, piperine) helps counter oxidative stress, a major cause of cellular deterioration. The recommended dose for Cardiol is 1 pearl daily, taken preferably before dinner.

Eulipid

Eulipid is a supplement that does not contain fish oil and has berberine as its main component. As several scientific studies show, Berberine exerts a hypolipidemic action as well as a hypoglycemic effect similar to that of metformin. In addition, the combination of Berberine and Citrus bioflavonoids, also present in Eulipid, reduces postprandial hyperglycemia in overweight subjects. Bioflavonoids and polycosanols are also present in the formulation: together with resveratrol, tocotrienols and CoQ10 they are helpful in balancing blood levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Eulipid may be a viable alternative for the treatment of dyslipidemia (as well as metabolic syndrome), especially in all cases of non-response or intolerance to statin treatment. Again, the recommended daily dose is 1 tablet per day, preferably before dinner. One packet is thus sufficient for one month of supplementation.
