Pre-menopausal high cholesterol, can omega-3s help?

Hello. I am writing to ask your advice. I am 47 years old and all the symptoms of pre-menopause: heavy sweating, weight gain, interrupted sleep but most of all my bad cholesterol has risen. I have 220 total cholesterol, with normal triglycerides, good cholesterol over the range and bad cholesterol within limits but in the last year it has gone up a lot. I wanted to take Omega 3 but reading the various questions I wonder if it is the right choice. What would you recommend? Thank you Lisa

Dear Lisa,

the product we recommend is Cardiol Forte a dietary supplement containing omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA ,from fish oil, fermented red rice extract, , Olive extract titrated to Hydroxytyrosol and Coenzyme Q10.

Vitamin E, piperine, and folic acid (important for proper metabolism of homocysteine, a metabolite that in excess increases cardiovascular risk) complete the formulation. In addition, taking 250 mg of EPA and DHA daily contributes to normal heart function.

Cardiol Forte also contains Artichoke extract. This powdered extract obtained from the leaves of artichoke Cynara cardunculus L. is titrated to 10% chlorogenic acid and derivatives (biophenols) and 2% luteolin 7-glucoside and derivatives (flavonoids). The biophenols in Artichoke extract have cholagogic, choleretic and hepatoprotective activities; In addition, the flavonoids present inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis and protect LDL from oxidative damage.

We generally recommend that you consult your treating physician who is aware of the medications you take, the possible interactions with the ingredients of the dietary supplements you habitually consume or would like to add to your diet and is aware of your clinical course. We also recommend, of course, that you inform your treating physician of any dietary arrangements (diet, dietary supplements) that you plan to adopt as well as talk about the possibility of using our products: all this in order to decide with him on the most appropriate therapy.

Sincerely,

Silvia Lisciani Ph.D. Nutrition biologist
