What Omega-3 supplement for a hyperactive 13-year-old child?

Dear Mauro,

the product best suited for your son is VitaDHA liquid, a single-serving sachet formulation of the highest quality fish oil. It provides 1800 milligrams total Omega-3s per administration:

- 1250 mg of DHA
- 360 mg of EPA

Omega-3 EPA and DHA have a positive effect on central nervous system development. These fatty acids help promote mood balance, calmness and coordination by regulating the production of neurotransmitters (mainly dopamine and serotonin) DHA promotes the differentiation of neurons and helps stimulate the production of growth factors (such as NGF, nerve growth factor), which are responsible for the formation of new synapses (neuronal plasticity). The synapse is one of the main mechanisms involved in learning and memory.

DHA is also one of the basic building blocks of the nervous system because it is a component of the myelin sheath, an electrical insulator of neuronal extensions important in the proper transmission of nerve impulse. EPA modulates the production of inflammatory prostaglandins that appear to be involved in the states of anxiety and depression that very often accompany and exacerbate hyperactive behavior. Child neuropsychiatrist Michele Germano uses 1 sachet per day of liquid VitaDHA for the treatment of ADHD. Dr. Germano is a specialist in the treatment of ADHD disorders at the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo (FG). The VitaDHA sachet can be taken singly or diluted in cold foods:

  • yogurt, citrus or strawberry;
  • spreadable cheeses.

We recommend a minimum integration period of 2-3 months, which can be extended according to individual needs and requirements. I hope I have been helpful and remain available for any clarification.

Sincerely. Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
