Autism: which supplement for a child?

Hello, to increase cognitive abilities and reduce hyperactivity and attention deficit and help verbal communication of a child with autistic disorder, which supplement is best? In what dosage and for how long? Should it be administered cyclically? THANK YOU

Dear Madam,

unfortunately, you do not write me the age of your child: therefore, I will report some general indications about the use of omega-3 in children with autism and, more generally, autism spectrum disorders (ASD). First, can omega-3 help in cases of autism? Potentially yes:

  • individuals with autism spectrum disorders often have an Omega-3 deficiency at the level of cell membranes;
  • clinical evidence shows that dietary reintroduction of these nutrients can lead to a reduction in the aggressive behavior that often plagues autism;
  • DHA is the omega-3 most present at the level of cell membranes in the nervous system; therefore, DHA is the omega-3 that should preferably be supplemented in children with autism spectrum disorders.

Among our products, VitaDHA liquid in single-dose vials is the one that contains the highest dosage of DHA per dose: each 6 g vial of flavored oil provides 1250 mg of DHA and 360 mg of EPA. Of course, it is a good idea to have this dietary supplementation discussed and approved in advance by the treating physician or autism specialist. The usual recommended dose is 1 vial per day, expecting supplementation for a period of at least 2 months.

VitaDHA is produced using a very pure and natural fish oil flavored with lemon essential oil. It can be taken as is, from the vial itself or poured onto a teaspoon, because it is free of fishy odor/flavor and has a pleasant taste. Or it can be added to white or fruit yogurt, spreadable cheese or smoothies.

I would again recommend that any supplementation with VitaDHA be followed up in consultation with your specialist physician, so that he or she can monitor and measure progress over time while also determining, based on these assessments, the duration of supplementation. I remain available for any further questions or clarifications.

Sincerely,
