Choose Ferrolip: take a quantum leap in iron supplementation!

Iron deficiency is one of the most prevalent worldwide. How to deal with it? Dietary supplements are a simple and effective solution, but sometimes associated with unpleasant side effects. Thanks to a special technology-microencapsulation-Ferrolip® turns iron supplementation into a pleasant and effective experience. Find out what it is, what its benefits are, and how to boost them by combining iron with other active allies in your health!

What is iron and what are the health benefits

Iron is a mineral necessary for the growth, development and functioning of the human body.

Your body uses it to produce the hemoglobin contained within your red blood cells; this protein is essential for transporting oxygen in the air you breathe into your lungs to all your organs and tissues.

By coordinating the formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin and participating in energy metabolism, this mineral fights fatigue and helps you feel more vital.

But that's not all: iron is so important for the health of your muscles and your immune system. And remember: you also use it to produce certain hormones and it is involved in the process of cell division!

How to take iron: the best food sources

You can get iron from different foods that contain it naturally. The best sources include:

  • red meat (preferably lean);
  • the white meat (poultry);
  • offal (liver, spleen, kidney, lung, heart, tongue);
  • seafood products (fish, seafood);
  • eggs;
  • legumes (beans, lentils, soybeans, chickpeas, lupins, broad beans, peas);
  • nuts (pistachios, cashews, peanuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, walnuts);
  • The dried fruits (peaches, apricots, plums, grapes, figs, dates)
  • green radicchio, arugula, dandelion and spinach;
  • the bitter cocoa;
  • tea;
  • wheat bran and wheat germ;
  • the mint, rosemary, basil, and parsley;
  • brewer's yeast.

You can also find it within fortified foods, that is, to which additional amounts of nutrients (in this case iron) have been added. For example, there are brands of breakfast cereals fortified precisely with iron.

Your body, however, cannot absorb the iron present in all these sources with the same efficiency. In particular, it is better able to absorb that present within animal sources, such as meats and eggs, while it has some more difficulty absorbing that present within plant sources, albeit excellent ones, such as legumes.

Iron supplements: when are they needed?

Iron supplements serve you in situations where you cannot meet your needs with food alone and are, therefore, at risk of deficiency (or perhaps you are already deficient in this mineral).

As mentioned, iron deficiency is one of the most prevalent in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), along with vitamin A and iodine, iron is one of the micronutrients we struggle to meet our needs for, especially as children and, if we are women, during pregnancy.

Any deficiency can manifest itself in obvious health problems, such as anemia. But less blatant symptoms, such as reduced energy available, memory problems, and difficulty concentrating, with reduced productivity at school or work, can also be caused by insufficient levels of this mineral.

You are among the people most at risk of deficiency if:

  • you have difficulty absorbing iron due to celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or infection with Helicobacter pylori (the ulcer bacteria);
  • You are a woman with heavy menstrual discharge;
  • you are a pregnant woman;
  • You are breastfeeding;
  • donate blood often;
  • You have received a diagnosis of heart failure or cancer;
  • you are on dialysis;
  • You went through bariatric surgery.

In addition, as anticipated, children are also at risk of iron deficiency, especially if they are born prematurely or with low weight.

How to avoid the side effects of iron supplements

In short, as you may have guessed, taking iron supplements can really make a difference to your well-being. You may, however, have heard of possible side effects-or, perhaps, experienced them on your own skin.

Don't worry: taking iron doesn't necessarily mean you have to endure a disgusting metallic taste, find yourself struggling with gastric upset, or feel your energy coming and going. The important thing is that you choose the right supplement!

Starting to take Ferrolip® could bring you pleasant surprises. Credit is due to the microencapsulation technology by which it is manufactured, which protects the iron until it is absorbed while simultaneously eliminating the classic metallic taste of iron supplements and the gastric discomfort triggered by taking them.

In Ferrolip®, the iron normally used to make supplements is treated as a valuable cargo transported through your body by microscopic capsules. By releasing their contents only once they reach the intestines, these capsules prevent the iron from coming into contact with the gastric mucosa. Hence the benefits of microencapsulation:

  • no metallic taste;
  • no gastric disturbance;
  • maximum absorption (in the intestines).

The pleasant natural aroma complements the magic formula, making the supplementation experience even more enjoyable.
