Ask the Pharmacist

Are Omega-3s helpful in reducing skin dryness?

I am 60 years old and have very dry skin. My pharmacist recommended that I take Omega-3. What do you think?

Dear Loredana,

your pharmacist's advice is perfectly valid. Lipids are essential to ensure the structural and functional integrity of the skin.

They play an important role at the level of the stratum corneum: they enable the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes (the structural cells of skin, nails, and hair), thus making skin more hydrated and healthy, and hair stronger.

The most suitable product for her is Omegor Antiage, a formulation rich in active ingredients with adjuvant effects for:

  • skin trophism
  • microcirculation
  • resolution of inflammatory phenomena

The main nutrients are the Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and the Omega-6 fatty acid GLA from borage oil. Several scientific studies have shown that the combination of Omega-3 and Omega-6 is particularly beneficial to:

  • Ensure proper skin trophism;
  • Play an effective anti-inflammatory action;
  • Balancing mood.

The anti-inflammatory effect of GLA has also been studied to counter excessive skin dryness, skin aging, and atopic eczema. Important nutrients with strong antioxidant activity are also present in the formulation of Omegor Antiage: resveratrol, curcumin, tocotrienols and coenzyme Q10. These antioxidants are capable of:

  • Counteract the formation of free radicals;
  • prevent inflammatory and oxidative processes that underlie aging and loss of skin tone and elasticity.

The recommended dose is 1 pearl daily, taken before a main meal. To increase your daily intake of Omega-3, you can combine Omegor Antiage with 1 pearl of Omegor Twinefa, a simpler formulation with just the fatty acids EPA, DHA and GLA.

I hope I have been helpful and invite you to contact us again for any further information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
