Ask the Pharmacist

I take cardioaspirin, can I take omega-3?

Hi, can I take omega 3 even if I take cardioaspirin? I would like to know if there are any contraindications and if so, what are they?

Dear Madam,

in conjunction with drug treatment with cardioaspirin, there is no contraindication to taking omega-3s, indeed. By taking cardioaspirin, omega-3s may benefit you. In fact, international guidelines for secondary cardiovascular prevention stipulate:

  1. The prescription of aspirin at a dosage of 100 mg per day (the cardioaspirin)
  2. the recommendation to consume omega-3-rich fish two to three times a week or take 1 g of omega-3 per day from dietary supplementation.

If your usual diet does not include high fish consumption, you may consider taking 1-2 capsules per day ofOmegor Vitality 1000.

Omegor Vitality is an omega-3-concentrated fish oil dietary supplement that provides, per capsule, 420 mg of EPA and 210 mg of DHA-the two omega-3 fatty acids that can exert beneficial effects on our bodies. In cardioaspirin drug therapy, it is good for the diet to be rich in omega-3.

I recommend, however, that you inform your doctor if you decide to start omega-3 dietary supplementation. Your doctor should always be informed about any dietary supplementation or dietary arrangements you plan to implement-especially during drug therapy, as in the case of those taking cardioaspirin.

I remain available for further information.

Sincerely,
