I would like to put my 6-year-old on Omega-3. Is it better to have DHA or EPA? In what dosage?

I would like to put my 6-year-old on Omega-3. Is it better to have DHA or EPA? In what dosage?

Dear Ms. Colitti,

The ratio and relative amount of the 2 acids EPA and DHA vary according to the desired effect.

To supplement your child's diet with Omega-3s , I recommend Omegor Kids. This product contains 200 mg of algal DHA and effectively supports your child in physical, intellectual and behavioral growth. These ingredients are also present in the formulation:

  • Vitamins D3 and C, which are important for boosting the immune system;
  • honey, a natural energy source with known antibacterial, emollient and soothing activity.

The formulation of Omegor Kids is liquid, available in single-dose sachets. Due to its pleasant taste, it is very "liked" by young children. Each sachet can be taken individually, perhaps as a snack replacement, or added to white yogurt. VitaDHA, on the other hand, is preferable if you want to implement Omega-3 supplementation for a child's learning disabilities, dyslexia, dyspraxia (ADHD). It provides a high amount of Omega-3, especially DHA (1250 mg DHA and 360 mg EPA).

In this case the ratio is in favor of DHA, as many scientific studies have shown that high doses of this fatty acid are effective in individuals with learning disabilities. This formulation is also liquid and available in single-serving sachets, so it is always convenient to use. Finally, I would like to point you to Omegor Vitality, an EPA and DHA supplement with a 2:1 ratio of the 2 omega-3 fatty acids. Its formulation contains 200 mg of EPA and 100 mg of DHA.

Omegor Vitality may be helpful in improving overall health as well as reducing some inflammatory manifestations, which are not always easily recognized. The format available is in pearls, to be swallowed before main meals. These eventually can be pierced and the contents added to fruit yogurt.

I hope I have been as clear as possible and have cleared your doubts, however, I remain available for further clarification.

Sincerely,

 Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
