Ask the Pharmacist

Is fish oil helpful in combating gastrointestinal disorders?

Dear Doctor, I often have gastrointestinal complaints with constipation. I have mild gastritis and intestinal burning, I would like to know whether fish oil can improve this situation or not. I am taking 4-5 beads of Omegor Vitality 700 mg, before or during lunch and dinner. Thank you, Best Regards.

Dear Carlo,

Omega-3 rich fish oil supplementation may promote improvement in the gastritis symptoms you described.

These polyunsaturated fatty acids are able to inhibit the production of inflammatory substances: thus, they have anti-inflammatory and protective actions.

Regarding constipation, I recommend that you follow a diet rich in fiber (contained mainly in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables), alongside adequate fluid intake. These are fundamental conditions for maintaining proper bowel function.

I also recommend that you eat regularly, avoiding time shifts and hurried meals. The number of Omegor Vitality 500 pearls she takes is fine, as is the fact that she takes them before a main meal.

Sincerely.
