Anticoagulants and omega-3, are there any contraindications?

Good morning, I just had a venous thrombosis with pulmonary embolism. I am on anticoagulant therapy, clexane for the time being then oral therapy thereafter. I would like to know if I can continue taking Omegor Vitality 1000 and Omegor Antiage (alternating them) are there any contraindications?

Dear Sabrina, 

contraindications of omega-3 fatty acids concern people at risk of bleeding because they are taking particular drugs or substances, such as anticoagulants or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (the NSAIDs). In fact, these polyunsaturated fatty acids may increase the time it takes for blood to clot; therefore, they may be contraindicated if people are taking drugs that may in turn affect it such as precisely clexane, (antithrombotic).

I therefore recommend that you evaluate the concomitant intake of omega-3 fatty acids with clexane with your treating physician, who has a more complete clinical picture.
