Ask the Pharmacist

How can I lower my LDL cholesterol values?

I would like some advice on lowering HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Thank you.

Dear Anthony,

I don't know what your LDL cholesterol values are so I can't give you a precise answer on that.

Blood values considered normal:

  • Total cholesterol: 120 to 220 milligrams per deciliter of blood.
  • HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol): 40 to 80 milligrams per deciliter.
  • LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol): 70 to 180 milligrams per deciliter.

Omega-3s are important nutrients for the proper functioning of the body. They especially influence the blood level concentration of HDL (promoting its increase) and contribute to the decrease of triglycerides. Omega-3 fatty acids alone, however, are not particularly effective in reducing total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. In borderline individuals with total cholesterol levels around 240 milligrams per deciliter we recommend another formulation: Cardiol. Cardiol combines Omega-3 (450 milligrams per capsule):

  • fermented red rice;
  • Polycosanols;
  • Other active ingredients with greater specificity toward hypercholesterolemia.

Fermented red rice contains monacolin K (3mg/capsule), a natural statin with a structure very similar to lovastatin. The combination of fish oil and fermented red rice is effective in reducing cholesterol levels on par with prescription statins. Even patients who are intolerant to statins have been able to take Cardiol with satisfactory results and no side effects.

Bioflavonoids, policosanols, tocotrienols and vitamin B3 work synergistically with fermented red rice to effectively promote LDL cholesterol reduction. The recommended daily dose of Cardiol is 1 pearl per day, taken in the evening just before dinner for a period of at least 2 months.

After this period has elapsed, he can repeat the tests to verify the effectiveness of the supplementation. My advice is to discuss the situation further with your treating physician, who knows your medical history, and evaluate with him the possibility of using Cardiol in combination with a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Sincerely.
