Is cod liver oil useful against high cholesterol?

Dear Elizabeta,

Omegor Classic is a dietary supplement based on cod liver oil. It naturally contains omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, vitamin D3 and A. In addition, it is enriched with vitamin E.

In terms of omega-3 content, it has a benefit on the cardiovascular system and the cerebral sphere.

In addition, Omegor Classic can also boast the maintenance of visual acuity and normal skin due to the presence of vitamin A and the maintenance of normal bones and teeth due to vitamin D that is also useful for the immune system.

It is in fact a product concentrated in Omega-3, which is useful for physiological well-being of the body.

The recommended dose per day is 5-10 ml, or 1-2 teaspoons. It can be taken as is or mixed with cold or lukewarm foods such as spreadable cheese, yogurt or other of one's liking.

To lower cholesterol levels, I recommend a more specific product, Cardiol forte.

Specifically, Cardiol Forte contains diverse and synergistic ingredients to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.

CARDIOL FORTE contains a combination of Omega-3 EPA/DHA, Total Monacolins and Olive Polyphenols (hydroxytyrosol) that protect LDL cholesterol from oxidation, together with an artichoke extract supported by a clinical study, with effects on lipid profile and hepatoprotective activity.

As for the artichoke extract in the formula, it is a powdered extract obtained from the leaves of artichoke Cynara cardunculus L. titrated to 10% chlorogenic acid and derivatives (biophenols) and 2% luteolin 7-glucoside and derivatives (flavonoids). The biophenols in Artichoke extract have cholagogic, choleretic and hepatoprotective activities. While, the flavonoids present inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis and protect LDL from oxidative damage.

A clinical evaluation of the extract for effects on liver function and cardio-metabolic health was performed. The study examined 100 subjects with metabolic syndrome at 3 different different levels of nonalcoholic hepatic steatosis. Specifically, after 6 months, a 13.6% reduction in total cholesterol, 17.2% reduction in triglycerides, and a 15.9% reduction in circulating LDL was observed compared with placebo.

In addition, a 4.64% improvement in endothelial function and a reduction in carotid intima thickness was reported. Important factors in preventing atherosclerosis.

I therefore recommend that you take Cardiol forte 1 capsule daily just before dinner for 2-3 months and then repeat blood tests to reevaluate your blood cholesterol level.
