Ask the Pharmacist

I have high cholesterol. What can I take?

Dear Madam,

Since you did not indicate in your email the levels of LDL cholesterol that you found with your tests, I will list below the characteristics of the products in our line that might be useful to you in aiding the control of both high and borderline cholesterol:

  • In cases of border-line cholesterol with values above 200 mg/dL and up to 239 mg/dL, the most suitable product is definitely Cardiol, which contains omega-3 from fish oil, plant extracts such as fermented red rice source of monacolin K (3mg/cps), policosanols, Citrus bioflavonoids and some B vitamins to act with greater specificity on normalizing blood cholesterol levels. The recommended dose for Cardiol is one pearl to be taken in the evening just before dinner for a period of at least 2 months in conjunction with a balanced diet. After two months of supplementation, it is preferable to repeat the tests to verify the effectiveness of the treatment.
  • In case of higher blood cholesterol values (>240 mg/dL), thus more severe hypercholesterolemia, it is advisable to opt for the product Cardiol Forte, which has a higher dosage in monacolin K (10 mg/cps), the natural statin useful for maintaining normal blood cholesterol levels. Again, the recommended dose is 1 pearl to be taken in the evening for a period of two months; after this period routine tests should be repeated.

The above two products are gluten-free and lactose-free. I recommend that you consult with your primary care physician about the possibility of taking Cardiol o Cardiol Forte to act on your cholesterol levels-especially if you are concurrently following drug therapies.

I remain available for further information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and pharmaceutical chemist
