Ask the Pharmacist

Autism, which omega-3 is best for my children?

Hello. Bearing in mind that I have 2 children aged 6 and 8, and the 6-year-old has autism spectrum disorder, I wanted to ask if the product I ordered, "Omegor Kids syrup," is suitable for both of them or if it is advisable, due to the higher dosage of DHA, to take "VitaDHA liquid." Can you confirm that in the refrigerator the products do not lose their qualities and improve their organoleptic properties? Thank you

Dear Marco,

autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and childhood autism may benefit from omega-3 supplementation. I'll start right away by telling you that Omegor Kids syrup can definitely work well for your 8-year-old child. Omegor Kids syrup provides 200 mg of DHA per single-dose vial:

  • This dosage is indicated to supplement the normal nutrition of developing children
  • And is especially useful during the school term

For her 6-year-old, however, a higher dosage of DHA might be indicated, such as can be found in the VitaDHA product. VitaDHA also comes in single-dose vials-and contains fish oil that is particularly pure as well as pleasant to the taste, because it is flavored with lemon essential oil.

Often those with autism or ASD have a deficit of Omega-3

The reason why supplementation with higher dosages of DHA is recommended stems from evidence that individuals with autism and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) often have an Omega-3 deficiency at the level of cell membranes.

  • Thus, dietary reintroduction of such nutrients could potentially lead to a reduction in aggressive behavior.

VitaDHA can be taken by your youngest child at a dosage of 1 vial per day. The product can be taken as such or mixed with cold or lukewarm foods or beverages-yogurt, soft cheese, milk, fruit juice, etc. The taste is also pleasant. Of course, it is good to have this dietary supplement discussed and approved by the pediatrician or specialist before it is undertaken.

You can store the products in the refrigerator

I confirm that refrigerated storage may be recommended for both Omegor Kids and VitaDHA-especially during the summer period, to improve the taste. I would again recommend that any supplementation with VitaDHA be followed up in consultation with your medical professional, so that he or she can monitor and measure progress over time, and also determine, based on these assessments, the duration of supplementation. I remain available for any further questions or clarifications.

Sincerely,
